A MODERN, NON-DESTRUCTIVE METHOD
Understanding French drain camera inspection
A camera inspection involves inserting a high-resolution camera into the French drain to see its condition in real time.
It lets us detect blockages, roots, sagging or breaks, and check for proper drainage slope.
It is a fast, accurate, non-invasive way to assess the system’s performance and avoid unnecessary work.
SIGNS YOU CAN'T IGNORE
When should you get a camera inspection?
An inspection is recommended when there is water infiltration, persistent moisture, efflorescence stains or standing water around the house.
It is also recommended if your drain is over 25 years old or has never been checked.
This check makes it possible to identify the exact cause and apply the right solution: cleaning, repair or replacement.
A STRUCTURED PROCESS FOR A RELIABLE DIAGNOSIS
Our complete 6-step French drain camera inspection method

STEP 1: FREE quote and complete diagnosis
Analysis of the house, the lot and the drain access points.

STEP 2: Preparing and setting up access to the French drain
Opening the access cleanouts or temporarily installing a secure entry point so the camera can travel through the system.

STEP 3: Preliminary cleaning if needed
Debris removal with a high-pressure water jet for better visibility.

STEP 4: Inserting the camera into the French drain
A high-resolution camera is inserted into the French drain and guided along its entire length to observe its condition in real time.

STEP 5: Detailed analysis
The images are carefully reviewed to locate clogs, roots, sagging and breaks, and to check the drainage slope.

STEP 6: Clear report and personalized recommendations
You receive a video report with tailored recommendations: cleaning, repair or replacement, depending on the condition of the drain.

EXPERT ANSWERS TO YOUR CONCERNS
Your most frequently asked questions about French drain camera inspection
A camera test checks the inside of the French drain without excavation. It shows whether the drain is in good condition, clogged, cracked or invaded by roots.
A technician inserts a specialized camera into a drain opening. The camera moves through the pipe and transmits real-time images so the condition of the system can be analyzed.
Yes, it can detect:
- Clogs (mud, sand, debris)
- Root intrusion
- Cracks or crushed sections
- Poor slope or sagging drain
No. The camera is designed to move gently through the pipe without causing damage.
- Camera: fast, non-destructive, lets you see inside.
- Excavation: more costly and invasive, but necessary if a repair or replacement must be done.
On average between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the length and accessibility of the drain.
An inspection is recommended every 10 to 15 years, or as soon as there are signs of water infiltration in the basement.
- Water on the floor or infiltration in the basement
- Musty odors
- Mold stains on the walls
- White efflorescence on the concrete
- A French drain that has never been checked since installation
Yes. The inspection shows whether water is flowing properly or whether the drain is blocked or has sagged.
Yes. Most companies provide a video and a written report detailing the condition of the drain and their recommendations.
The price depends on the house and the length of the drain, but in general you should expect between $500 and $1,500.
Yes, but it is easier in spring, summer and fall. In winter, some openings may be frozen, which makes access more difficult.
Yes, but if the blockage is too severe, prior cleaning (e.g. with a high-pressure jet) may be needed.
Depending on the severity:
- High-pressure cleaning
- Partial drain repair
- Complete replacement if the drain is too damaged
Yes. Providing a recent inspection report reassures buyers and shows that the French drain works properly.
